Most central banks have plenty of import coverage
There is little common ground between respondents at high or low levels of coverage
Most central banks have relatively high import coverage ratios, data from the Reserve Benchmarks 2026 shows.
Among 63 respondents that supplied data in this section of the benchmarks, only nine central banks (14.3%) have an import coverage ratio of less than three months, the level commonly considered a sufficient margin of safety.
The median advanced economy central bank has five months of reserve cover and the median emerging market has six months. At the low end, two central banks reported
