Nine out of 10 Japanese people see prices rising

BoJ survey shows around half of respondents expect economic slowdown in a year’s time

A quarterly survey by the Bank of Japan has found that around 90% of people in the country expected prices to rise a year from now, while the number of respondents who expected prices to rise “significantly” had jumped by around 40%.

The survey on the public’s views of the economy, conducted in June and published on July 16, shows that around half of respondents thought prices would go up slightly in one year’s time, while 40.5% expected them to rise significantly. The respective figures in the
