Government not to blame for inflation – Icelandic minister
Central bank had previously blamed price growth on pay policies plus effects of solar eclipse
Iceland’s finance minister has pushed back on part of the central bank’s narrative over what is causing inflation in the country to be running above-target.
Price growth has been running at more than 5% for the entirety of 2026 on annualised terms, and came in at 5.3% in July according to the central bank’s readings in August.
However, on September 7, finance minister Dadi Mar Kristofersson said government policies had “not been the cause”.
