French lawmakers confirm Moulin as next BdF governor

France’s Senate on May 20 cleared Emmanuel Moulin’s path to head the country’s central bank.

The former chief of staff to the French president Emmanuel Macron will now lead the Banque de France (BdF) for a six-year term. This followed a hearing in the upper chamber of parliament that culminated in a vote in which 58 senators opposed his candidature and only 52 supported it. Opposition from three-fifths of senators would have been required to prevent Moulin from taking up the governorship.
