US Senate advances Fed chair nomination for Warsh

Separate vote confirming appointment expected later this week

The US Senate has moved a step closer to confirming Kevin Warsh as the next chair of the Federal Reserve following a procedural vote on May 11.

The upper chamber of Congress voted 49–44 to “invoke cloture” on Warsh’s nomination to the Fed’s board of governors, a process that allows the legislative body to move to a final vote on the matter today (May 12). 

The vote was mostly decided along party lines. Only two Democratic senators, John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Chris Coons of Delaware, voted
