ECB president says settlement in tokenised markets must be anchored in central bank money
Christine Lagarde has come out against euro-denominated stablecoins, arguing that settlement in tokenised financial markets must be anchored in central bank money.
In a speech on May 8 at the Bank of Spain’s LatAm Economic Forum, the European Central Bank president said stablecoins were reshaping monetary demand and transforming settlement infrastructure through the use of distributed ledger technology (DLT).
