Pandemic changes could help women advance in central banks

Remote working gives staff flexibility not offered by existing arrangements, say senior policy-makers

More women may gain senior roles in central banks due to the changes brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, a panel of senior policy-makers told a webinar today (June 25).

The Deutsche Bundesbank’s vice-president Claudia Buch said women are more inclined to choose positions or working arrangements that are “more flexible”.

“This is very important to consider when we decide what post-pandemic working arrangements will look like,” she told a webinar held by the Bank for International
