EBA announces key ratios for European bank stress tests

The European Banking Authority (EBA) today announced the key features of the stress tests it will carry out on Europe's biggest banks later this year, and promised the full methodology will be released in April, with the results of the tests due out in October.

Today's headline announcement is that the capital threshold for banks' "adverse scenario" is set at 5.5% common equity tier 1 (CET1), while the figure for the baseline scenario is 8%.

The objective of the stress tests is to help
