Riksbank tightens collateral requirements

The Sveriges Riksbank said today (October 8) that it is introducing stricter regulations governing the use of collateral it will accept for loans to commercial banks.

The Swedish central bank said it will not accept unsecured securities issued by credit institutions beyond December 31, 2012 unless they have a general or local government guarantee and possess a credit rating no lower than AA-. The central bank also said it will reject all asset-backed securities (ABSs) after this date.
