Productivity in Chinese provinces

Research published by the Bank of Finland analyses the impact of research and development on total factor productivity across the Chinese provinces, explicitly introducing innovations into a production function and evaluating their contribution to economic growth between 1993 and 2006.

The results highlight the importance and the interaction between local and external research, and the paper concludes that if China is to sustain growth in the years ahead, it must become a more innovation-based
