Comment: Frosty start for Bundesbank and new govt

Relations between the German Bundesbank and the new coalition government of Angela Merkel have got off to frosty start. Bundesbank president Axel Weber has been critical of plans to consolidate public finances.

COMMENT BY CENTRALBANKNET

He has also emphasised the central bank's independence from the government, cold shouldering a suggestion by new finance minister, Peer Steinbruck, that some of the Bundesbank's gold reserves could be used to finance government investments.
