RBA cancels market operations due to outage

Issue at third-party provider impacted central bank and several commercial banks

The Reserve Bank of Australia cancelled a bond purchase operation on June 17 after outages hit the systems of several financial institutions in Australia.

The RBA’s own website appears to have been impacted during the incident, which originated at a third-party provider of internet services.

The central bank cancelled its regular purchase of long-dated government bonds. Purchases normally take place in the secondary market on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, but several banks appear to have
