Views pivot on whether US dollar-backed stablecoins or other currencies will prosper
Former People’s Bank of China governor Zhou Xiaochuan has warned about a multitude of dangers related to stablecoins, in contrast to current governor Pan Gongsheng, who has emphasised their potential to revolutionise international finance.
Zhou, architect of many of China’s financial reforms between 2002 to 2018, said authorities must be “vigilant against the risk of stablecoins being excessively used for asset speculation, as misdirection could trigger fraud and instability in the financial
