Study finds Californian law led to more data being shared with fintech firms

Laws to protect consumers’ data can have a beneficial effect on the fintech industry, research published by the Bank for International Settlements finds.

Authors Sebastian Doerr, Leonardo Gambacorta, Luigi Guiso and Marina Sanchez del Villar examine the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), passed in 2020. The law gives consumers greater control over which companies they allow to access their data.
