UK on way to wholesale stablecoin payments

The UK is a “long way down the road” towards wholesale stablecoin payments, a government official has told a parliamentary committee. 

Treasury financial services minister Andrew Griffith made the comments to the UK parliament’s Treasury Committee on January 10.

The first use case of a digital pound – the potential central bank digital currency (CBDC) being researched by the Treasury and Bank of England – would probably also be in the settlement of wholesale financial transactions, Griffith
