US Treasury doubles long-term bond purchases
Treasuries with 10–20 and 20–30-year maturities to be bought at $4 billion 'per operation'
The US Treasury is to double its efforts to buy back government debt from September 9.
It announced the move on August 19 following a month of steady increases in longer-term Treasury yields, which went from around 5.09% on July 20 to around 5.33% by August 18. Immediately after the announcement, the yields of 30-year bonds dropped from around 5.29% to a low of around 5.19%, before rising back to around 5.24% at the time of writing.
