Waller praises DLT, AI and stablecoins for payments

Governor says there is nothing to fear from new technologies or payment providers

Federal Reserve governor Christopher Waller used a speech on September 29 to praise distributed ledger technology (DLT), artificial intelligence and stablecoins.

Addressing an audience at Sibos in Frankfurt, Germany, Waller said: “We are indeed witnessing a new frontier of innovation in payments and the broader financial system. New technologies like distributed ledgers, tokenised assets, smart contracts and artificial intelligence have the potential to make payments smarter, faster, and more
