Saudi central bank expands payment system to global players in digitalisation drive

Saudi Arabia’s central bank has announced the launch of Google Pay and Alipay+ as part of efforts to digitise the country’s payment infrastructure.

The Saudi Central Bank (Sama) announced on September 15 that it had made Google Pay available in the national payment system. On the same day, it announced it had reached an agreement with Ant International, the parent company of Alipay+, to launch the service by 2026.
