Barbados to launch instant payment system

Central bank says ‘revolutionary moment’ in country’s financial history will take place next March

The Central Bank of Barbados announced on August 12 that the country’s instant payment system, BimPay, would go live on March 31, 2026.

At the official announcement of the system’s launch, the bank’s governor Kevin Greenidge said it would resolve the current fragmentation in the country’s payment systems and lower costs for Barbadians. He added that the central bank would still need to approve the fees that financial institutions wished to levy on those using the system.
