Brics leaders push for multilateral payments solutions

Central bank governors and finance ministers also call for reform of Bretton Woods institutions

Brics economies have stated their commitment to exploring interoperability between payments systems and have called for reform of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

Central bank governors and finance ministers from the organisation’s member states issued a joint statement on July 5 during the organisation’s 17th summit in Brazil.

They said a Brics payment task force had made progress in discussions on “greater interoperability” of payment systems. 

They also called for “eligible”
