Brazil to enable Pix for contactless instant payments

BCB-managed platform to have point-of-sale function by late February

Citizens in Brazil will be able to use Pix to make contactless transactions at retail points of sale by the end of this month, Central Banking has learned.

The instant payment platform, launched by the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) in 2020, has quickly become the country’s most popular payment method. A BCB survey this year found it had overtaken cash as Brazil’s most used means of payment among citizens.
