Myanmar official says Mir payments will launch in October
Central bank leader had predicted the Russian card would start circulating last year
A Myanmar minister has said that the Russian Mir payment card network may soon begin operating in that country.
Investment minister Kan Zaw told Sputnik the “Mir cards could be used starting from October, I hope”.
Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, the minister also confirmed Myanmar is paying for Russian oil with renminbi. He added Russia and Myanmar are working on an agreement to use rubles for these oil purchases.
