Russia’s Mir cards now working in Venezuela

Russian payment cards advance in Latin America, but get sanctioned by Canada

Businesses in Venezuela have started accepting Russia’s Mir payment cards, although not in the country’s capital, media reports said.

Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov, the Russian ambassador to Venezuela, said the Mir cards are being accepted on the tourist resort Margarita Island, a popular destination for Russians unable to travel elsewhere due to sanctions. He added the Mir system was still undergoing tests in Caracas.

The Venezuelan foreign minister, Yván Gil, said in April Venezuela and Russia
