Hong Kong seeks mobile wallet capabilities in China
Authorities in drive to ensure Hong Kong mobile phone e-payments work in mainland China
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority is “working closely with operators” to allow users of mobile wallets issued in Hong Kong to be able to make payments in China, according to an article written by HKMA senior executive director Howard Lee that was published on the authority’s website.
Currently, some Chinese e-wallets such as mobile payment giants Alipay and WeChat Pay are accepted by local Hong Kong merchants but not vice versa.
In Hong Kong, mobile payment can be divided into two types
