ECB to introduce structural bond portfolio and LTROs – Schnabel

Executive board member says QT worries have not materialised

The European Central Bank (ECB) will introduce “new structural longer-term lending operations and a new structural bond portfolio” as excess liquidity abates, a member of its executive board said on November 7.

Speaking at the annual ECB conference on money markets, Isabel Schnabel said tighter prudential regulation could prompt banks to hold more reserves, thereby pushing up money market rates “earlier than suggested”. She said the bank would therefore introduce new facilities to complement its
