Riksbank starts corporate bond purchases

Swedish central bank will buy $1.1 billion in these bonds until June 30, 2021

Sveriges Riksbank started buying corporate bonds today (September 14) as part of the quantitative easing programme it has implemented to tackle the Covid-19 crisis.

It is the first time the Swedish central bank has purchased this asset. The programme is designed to buy Skr10 billion ($1.1 billion), with bond purchases running until June 30, 2021.

Some critics have argued the programme comes too late, as financial markets have stabilised and corporate bond spreads have narrowed.
