Paraguay holds rates while Costa Rica cuts by quarter point

Both central banks face below-target inflation despite global energy price shock

The central banks of Paraguay and Costa Rica both announced rates decisions on July 23, with the former opting to hold and the latter announcing a 25 basis point cut, as both countries continued to face below-target inflation.

Paraguay: fifth consecutive hold

The Central Bank of Paraguay kept its benchmark interest rate at 5.5% for the fifth consecutive meeting. In a statement following the decision, the bank’s monetary policy committee said the move was in line with its neutral policy stance.
