Jamaica and Uruguay hold rates

Central banks cite deteriorating geopolitical tensions and extreme weather as upside inflation risks

The Jamaican and Uruguayan central banks have both held rates for the fourth consecutive time.

Jamaica holds at 5.5% 

The Bank of Jamaica held its key policy rate at 5.5%. In a statement on August 19, the bank’s monetary policy committee (MPC) said the environment underpinning the inflation outlook remained uncertain. “Hostilities in the Middle East have remained unresolved and the Russia-Ukraine war has intensified,” the MPC said.
