At its meeting on August 10, the National Bank of Romania kept the monetary policy rate at 6.5%, as the country continues to struggle with the fallout from the collapse of its government.

Investors had widely expected the rate hold. The board has kept the policy rate unchanged since August 2024.

In a press release announcing the decision, the bank said headline inflation slowed in June to 10.4%, from 10.9% in May. It said the fall was mainly driven by a sharp decline in food and fuel prices.
