FOMC minutes show sharp division in projections

Some members argue rates may need to be raised while others make case for easing

Almost all members of the Federal Open Market Committee supported the decision to keep rates on hold in January, according to minutes of the meeting, released on February 18. 

However, evidence of the sharp divides on the committee were more evident in the projections for how policy should develop in future. Some participants argued that rates may need to be lowered. Others argued that rates may need to be held. And a third group argued rates may need to be raised.
