Fed can afford to wait on rates, say regional heads

Atlanta and Chicago presidents say uncertainty over economy means it’s too soon to talk of more cuts

Economic uncertainty means the US should wait before deciding whether to lower interest rates further, the presidents of two Federal Reserve banks have said.

The president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Raphael Bostic, said on February 3 that he would be “very satisfied” to wait for a while before making a decision on how the Federal Open Markets Committee should move. “That would be fine. It depends on what happens. If it becomes clear where the economy is going, I will be good to move
