FOMC members appear split as meeting nears

Rosengren says “no immediate” need to cut, while Bullard urges Fed to take “aggressive” steps

Senior Federal Reserve officials continue to disagree on the appropriate rate response to the economic challenges facing the US.

Boston Fed president Eric Rosengren hinted he may dissent for the second meeting in a row, while St Louis Fed president James Bullard urged the Fed to take “aggressive” steps to provide more accommodation at its next meeting.

The next Federal Open Market Committee policy meeting is scheduled for September 17–18. It will be its first meeting since the Fed chose to cut
