Destry Damayanti tapped to serve as Bank Indonesia governor

Expert says nominee, who has served as BI deputy governor since 2019, will be viewed as a safe pick by markets

Indonesia’s president has nominated Bank Indonesia interim governor Destry Damayanti to serve in the role permanently, after Perry Warjiyo unexpectedly resigned as the central bank’s leader late last month.

A presidential spokesperson said today (August 10) that Damayanti was Prabowo Subianto’s sole nominee for the role. The president could have put forward three candidates for the role if he had chosen to. Following Damayanti’s selection for the governorship, she will undergo a parliamentary
