Legislation first proposed in 2023 would give Brazil’s central bank full control over its budget
A Brazilian Senate committee has advanced a bill to grant the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) financial autonomy as the monetary authority seeks greater control over its own budget.
The Senate’s Constitution and Justice Committee today (June 10) cleared the bill, which proposes a constitutional amendment to give the BCB full control over its budget for staff costs and investments, funded by income generated from its financial assets.
