The Bank of Mexico is challenging the new government’s plans to cap the wages of public sector officials in the courts.

In a statement published on January 3, the central bank said it had filed an appeal with the Supreme Court for a ruling on whether the law would damage its independence.

The central bank stressed it would “fully comply” with the decision from the court, and has been “respectful” of the current constitution and Mexican legal framework.
