Malaysian government names Nor Shamsiah Mohd as new governor

Former deputy governor led investigation of 1MDB and recommended prosecution

Malaysia’s government has appointed Nor Shamsiah Mohd, who led an investigation of the 1MDB scandal, as the next governor of the country’s central bank.

Locally-based reporters said the office of prime minster Mohamad Mahathir announced Nor Shamsiah’s appointment today (June 22). She will replace Muhammad Ibrahim, who resigned following strong criticism of his handling of the 1MDB scandal.
