BoE’s Woods praises competition mandate for regulators

Edict has helped UK central bank facilitate new entries into banking sector, PRA chief says

A competition mandate given to the UK regulator has “made a difference” in promoting new entries into the country’s banking sector, the head of the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) has said.

During an event at the Bayes Business School in London on May 12, Sam Woods was asked whether UK banking regulations had placed too high a barrier for entry into the sector, and thereby put newcomers at a disadvantage.
