Predictive text: Bank of Lithuania prepares to announce euro adoption by SMS

Every Lithuanian with a mobile phone will receive a text message if and when the country is approved as the 19th member of the eurozone – an announcement the Bank of Lithuania expects the European Union Council to make in July.

The central bank struck a deal with the country's major mobile operators last week – BITĖ Lietuva, Omnitel and Tele2 – that will see them send "two short messages" to their customers "on the most important euro adoption events".

The first message, in July, will announce
