RBA payments systems suffer outage

Problem took too long to resolve, and platform is too fragile, payments executive claims

The Reserve Bank of Australia’s payments systems suffered an outage for several hours on October 13, it said in a statement issued on the same day.

The RBA said an internal error in its IT systems had affected its fast settlement service, low-value clearing service and low-value settlement service. The error affected several RBA-run payments services, including its New Payments Platform, or NPP, which it introduced in 2018.
