Nepal’s central bank bans Chinese mobile payment platforms

Nepal’s central bank has banned the use of Chinese mobile payment services, including Alipay and WeChat Pay, and unauthorised point-of-sale (POS) machines, it said on May 20.

Use of any QR code, POS machine or other payment system “affiliated directly with foreign payment system is illegal, except with the approval from this bank”, the Nepal Rastra Bank said in a statement written in Nepali.
