IMF opens third China office in Shanghai

Institution and PBoC say new hub will conduct research into Asia-Pacific’s emerging economies

The International Monetary Fund has opened an office in Shanghai, its third in China. 

The opening ceremony on December 8 was attended by the IMF’s managing director Kristalina Georgieva and People’s Bank of China governor Pan Gongsheng and his deputy Xuan Changneng. Both the IMF and the PBoC said the centre would focus on policy research for emerging market and middle-income countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Pan said via a statement that the centre was highly significant for co-operation
