ECB president says impact of US tariffs has been “exact opposite” of expectations

European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde warned of a possible shock from the artificial intelligence-driven boom, even as she noted the fallout from the US tariffs had been milder than expected.

Speaking at the International Monetary Fund’s annual meetings in Washington, DC, on October 16, Lagarde gave her views on topics including the fracturing global economy, the role of policies and institutions, technology such as AI, fiscal policy and the overall prospects of global resilience.
