Stimulus packages are effective in raising consumption, researchers argue
A one-off payment of €25,000 ($28,886) would not make a person quit their job, work less or reduce the intensity with which they looked for a new role, research from the European Central Bank shows.
Economists Dimitris Georgarakos, Tullio Jappelli, Geoff Kenny and Luigi Pistaferri used the ECB’s consumer expectations survey from 2022 to ask around 10,000 citizens in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain how they would react if they won lottery prizes of differing amounts
