Japanese citizens expect prices to keep rising in 2026

BoJ says it will continue to hike rates if 2% inflation target is met

Most people in Japan expect prices to keep rising this year, a survey by its central bank shows, thus suggesting that the conditions that would enable further rate hikes may be materialising.

According to the survey, published today (January 19), 86% of people questioned between November and December expected prices to increase over the following year. Around 25% felt prices had risen slightly compared with a year before, while 70% felt they had risen significantly over the same period.
