Almost half of eurozone ready to stop buying US goods – ECB study

Tariffs have triggered significant animosity among consumers, research finds

Close to half of consumers in the eurozone would be willing to switch from buying US goods if the country’s tariffs remained in place, a study by the European Central Bank has found.

ECB researchers Adam Baumann, Luca Caprari, Maarten Dossche, Georgi Kocharkov and Omiros Kouvavas examined data from the March 2025 European consumer expectations survey. They published their findings in a blogpost on April 30.
