Inflation in Sri Lanka has turned positive for the first time in nearly a year, the country’s central bank has said, marking the first time this has occurred since the monetary authority reformed the way it sets its benchmark interest rate.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) said on August 29 that consumer price inflation last month was 1.2% year on year, compared with deflation of -0.3% in July. Non-food inflation also turned positive last month for the first time in 11 months, reaching 0.8%
