Inflation uncertainty reaching historic high in US – research

Richmond Fed economist says inflation expectations and uncertainty are rising dramatically

Median year-ahead inflation expectations reached 6.7% in preliminary April data, their highest level since November 1981, says a researcher with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. The March reading was only 5%. 

John O’Trakoun, senior policy economist at the Richmond Fed, says the University of Michigan’s measures of inflation uncertainty for both the year ahead and five years ahead are at their highest levels since the data was first reported in January 1978.
