Tariffs are likely to lead to higher levels of inflation and unemployment in the US, the presidents of two branches of the Federal Reserve have said.

In a speech on April 10, Lorie Logan, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, said tariffs had the potential to result in persistently higher inflation. The extent of such persistence “would depend on how quickly companies pass through cost increases and whether long-term inflation expectations remain well anchored”.
