ECB opens second round of banknote design competition

Artists invited to submit ideas related to culture and the natural world

The European Central Bank on July 15 launched the second round of its banknote design contest.

The bank is inviting European artists to come up with designs for new euro notes based around two themes: “European culture”, which the ECB said would focus on “shared cultural spaces and important Europeans”; and “rivers and birds”, which would focus on the “resilience and diversity of Europe’s natural ecosystems”.

The new themes, which the ECB announced in January, will replace the “ages and styles”
