Syria’s decision to move the printing of its currency away from Russia reflects a wider willingness to explore Western options to modernise its economy, a source tells Central Banking.

On May 16, Reuters reported that Syria was to move the printing of its banknotes from Russia to countries including Germany and the United Arab Emirates. The report mentioned Emirati firm Oumolat as a potential new supplier.
